We purchased this after enjoying Silverwing, my 7 year old and I. However, this one went a little cray cray with graphic gore talk sprinkled without, one of the main characters talks frequently about eating the cute little bat's beating heart out alive. Also, it talks a lot about humans making little bats and owls into bombs, and obviously there are a lot of deaths from this. I'm not sure what the intended audience for this book was, I would say teen to adult, but what teen wants to read about a cute little runt bat? Otherwise, written well, it's a shame for the senseless gore.

The number five rating is the only rating i could've picked for this book.
I loved everything in this book, and would recommend it to people who are interested in action and adventure type books.

My daughter says, "it was not quite as good as the original, (SILVERWING) but it was full of action and adventure in every chapter." She really enjoyed it!
If you enjoyed the action in Silverwing you will not be able to put this one down. It picks up right where book one left off and is all action from the get-go. The whole story line gets a litte more crazy and hard to believe in this book and I didn't feel like I learned as much about bats (maybe because I had already read the first one) but I loved the book and stayed up late to get it finished.
BTW, I am not afraid to admit that I am an adult, and not a "young-adult" anymore, both of these books are great and I recommend them to my adult friends as well as students. )
